Research & reference information

This profile compiles research and community-sourced reference information for educational purposes. Information may evolve as research and community knowledge develop. It is not individualized medical advice.

Overview

A peptide your mitochondria themselves encode, a cousin of MOTS-c.

It protects cells from stress and death, supports metabolism, and is studied for neuroprotection and longevity.

Levels fall with age.

What It Does

Humanin is a 24-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (the analog HNG / S14G-humanin is more potent).

It is cytoprotective and anti-apoptotic, improves insulin sensitivity, and protects neurons; originally discovered as a factor shielding cells from Alzheimer’s-related death.

No formal human clinical dose; community use is extrapolated from animal data.

Reconstitution Calculator

Enter the vial amount and diluent volume to calculate concentration. If you already have a target amount, you can also convert it to liquid volume and syringe markings. This tool does not recommend a target amount.

Calculated concentration—Enter both values above.
Optional conversion

Enter a target amount you already have and select the syringe capacity.

Calculated draw—Enter concentration inputs and a target amount.

Mathematical reference only. The calculator does not determine an appropriate target amount. Syringe capacity only changes the maximum volume that fits.

Protocol

PhaseFrequencyAmountNotes
Weeks 1–6Daily or several×/week0.5–2 mgSubQ. Start at the low end. Research/community range, no validated human dose.
Off2–4 weeks–Cycle 4–8 weeks on / 2–4 weeks off.
Cycle & Timing

4–8 weeks on / 2–4 weeks off.

Timing

any time; pairs naturally with MOTS-c as a mitochondrial stack. Note: no completed human trials, effects are inferred from animal/longevity research.

Population Considerations

Unisex mitochondrial-derived peptide, no sex-specific dosing; research-stage. Avoid in pregnancy.

Handling & Stacking

Injection site
SubQ, abdomen. Rotate.
Storage
  • Freeze-dried: -4°F.
  • Reconstituted: 36–46°F.
  • Best used within ~2–3 weeks (structure-based estimate, no published data); potency fades before the 28-day sterility limit, so keep it cold and dark and use it sooner.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated in reports, mild injection-site reaction. Human profile not formally characterized.
What to expect
  • Subtle metabolic and cytoprotective support over weeks; a longevity/recovery adjunct rather than an acute-effect peptide.
  • Supply math 10mg → 5 vials (6-wk @ 1 mg/day; fewer if dosed several×/week)
Pairs well with
MOTS-c (mitochondrial synergy); NAD+ (cellular energy); SS-31 (mitochondrial protection); Epithalon (longevity)
Avoid
Active malignancy (anti-apoptotic signaling, theoretical). Pregnancy

Safety & Patient Education

Contraindications
Active malignancy (anti-apoptotic mechanism, theoretical concern) Pregnancy and lactation Hypersensitivity to the peptide
Warnings
Anti-apoptotic (pro-survival) signaling, theoretical caution with cancer Quality varies, request a COA Effects are subtle and cumulative
Drug interactions
No well-characterized interactions Stacks cleanly with other mitochondrial/longevity peptides
Labs
  • Fasting glucose / metabolic panel if used for metabolic goals Age-appropriate cancer screening if used long-term Out of range?
  • Rising glucose/HbA1c = blood sugar creeping up (recheck, adjust).
Stop criteria
New mass or unexplained symptoms Persistent injection-site reaction Pregnancy
Patient education
A mitochondrial/longevity adjunct, give it weeks, expect subtle effects Pairs naturally with MOTS-c and NAD+ Request a COA; source quality matters
